An artsy HOME office
Steps to more creativity… That is what this otherwise random bonus space needed to take! After the renovation of the old carpeted staircase that leads to the master retreat, this small “foyer meets thorough-way” needed a purpose and the homeowner a home office (queue 2019 mid-pandemic).
Putting a desk in was the easy part but deciding on layout and design elements took some finessing. I didn’t want to impede on the natural flow but also wanted to create enough separation for it to NOT feel like a hallway affair.
Using a pastel colored arch, some abstract art, and a minimalist mural shapes (on the staircase) allowed me to frame the work space without overbearing it with furniture. I also added picture ledges – painted in the same color as the arch to create an architectural element that felt built-in – grounding the whole space in a clear focal point. And in true togetherness-style the final touch was adding toys for the homeowner’s daughter to hang out and play while mom is busy with work.
